Children and Cell Phones, Be Sure You Know Who They Are Talking To

With all of the technology available today, it's hard to say who is trying to get in contact with our children. Between the chat rooms, MySpace, and just using the internet, strangers could be talking to our children and we don't even know it.

Have you ever looked at your cell phone bill and wondered why there were so many different phone numbers calling your child's phone? Do you know who every single one of the numbers belongs to? Probably not. They might have met someone via the internet and assume the person is harmless. Do we really know for sure?

The good news is there are websites available which will help you find the information you are looking for. All you need is the cell phone number you are curious about. Just by inputting the number, you have access to the owner name and address, the phone location, household members, phone carrier and location, line type (land or mobile) and much more.

You may come across some sights that offer "free" service, but they are not free. Don't waste your time like I did. The legitimate sites that will give you the information you need to monitor your child's usage will naturally charge a small fee. The fee normally covers unlimited access so you can look up as many numbers as you like, as often as you like. It's a small price to pay to keep your child safe and to keep yourself informed.

Cell phones are a great way for us to keep in contact with our children. Our intentions are good and it is our responsibility to monitor their usage. Not everyone has good intentions.

Sure, cell phones are the ultimate in communication convenience. Our children love the fact that they can text or call their friends anytime they need to. Parents love the fact that they can contact their child with the push of a button. With millions of people now using cell phones all around the world, it is quickly becoming the standard in communication. The same convenience also opens up our children to a whole set of risks.

Investigating their usage is not an invasion of their privacy. They might try to convince you that it is, but it is our responsibility as a parent to make sure we know who is in contact with our children.
