The Best Age For Children to Have Cell Phones At

Our cell phones of today bear no resemblance whatsoever to their big and bulky predecessors from not so long. They couldn't be popped into a pocket like today's slim line models, and this greatly limited their popularity and appeal. Today, more people have cell phones than land lines, this technology has completely taken over.

If you work, or are going to be later home that you planned, a cell phone is great for getting in touch. But why are children walking around with them glued to their ears? For me, the right time to give a child their own phone is when they are around fourteen or fifteen. They will be going out a lot more and visiting other kids houses without needing supervision.

Even at this age, you should impress on your child that this is a phone for emergencies, to contact you if they need you.

Sticking to the premise of emergency only, there's no need for a pre tee to have a phone at all. They should never be going to the movies or concerts unsupervised so will have no reason to ring you. They will abuse the privilege as they are simply too young to take on the responsibility.

Pay as you go cell phones are perfect for kids; they have to top it up to use it so there are no horrendous and unexpected bills at the end of the month. You could make a deal with our child, you will top it up once a month for them and of they use all their minutes before then they have to pay for the top out of their allowance.
